Frequently asked questions

What is a Giving Day?

A Giving Day is an opportunity for those associated with Goodenough College all over the world, our global community, to unite and make a lasting difference to the lives of our Members.

During this 36 hour, online fundraising challenge, from Wednesday 18 – 19 November 2020, we are aiming to raise as much funding as possible to ensure our Scholarship fund survives the COVID-19 pandemic and can continue to impact on the educational and co-curricular experience of our current and future Members, helping them to thrive in their education and in life.

Why now?

Never before has the College been able to contact all of its worldwide community at one time. We also face significantly challenging times. Now, we need your support more than ever.

The Giving Day allows us to connect with our global community. It also gives our Alumni the chance to connect with one another. Your combined gifts will be totalled on the day will show how much impact our global Alumni and friends can make together.

What difference will my donation make?

Your gift to Goodenough Global Giving Day will enable postgraduates to come to Goodenough College, irrespective of their background. Our College faces significant financial strain due to COVID-19. We also know that during these difficult times, international postgraduates are relying on this type of special financial assistance more than ever. Future Scholars require all the support our Alumni and friends can provide to ensure they can live and study in London and become a part of our vibrant community.

All gifts, whatever size they may be, have amazing impact when we all come together. And when you give, you encourage others to support the College too. Whatever you can donate will hugely help us achieve our goal to help as many Scholars as possible. All donations are warmly received.

Why is a giving day different to any other day?

Donations on Giving Day will go even further than usual! Thanks to a few extremely generous individuals, a certain amount raised will be matched, pound for pound. Furthermore, several donors have provided challenge funds, which will be unlocked once we achieve particular goals. Take a look at our ‘Challenges’ page to see if your gift is eligible to unlock funds. Ultimately, your gift is worth more on our Giving Day than any other time of the year!

NB: For tax purposes, donors who participate in the giving challenges will be credited for their individual contribution only.

How can I help spread the word?

Your support will make a huge difference to future Scholars and the success of our first Giving Day! Post about our Giving Day using #GoodenoughGlobalGiving on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram - and don’t forget to tag us! Make sure to tell fellow Alumni and friends of the College about this exciting day so they can also get involved and make a difference.

Want to make an even bigger difference? Help spread the word by becoming an Ambassador.

What is an Ambassador, and what am I committing to?

An Ambassador is an individual who chooses to support us in the lead up to the Giving Day and on the day itself, by acting as a ‘digital’ volunteer.

Don’t worry: if you sign up to be an Ambassador for us there is no minimum commitment. All that we ask is that you help us to spread the word about our Giving Day by sharing our page on social media and posting the occasional updates that we send out throughout the day.

As much as we try to tell all of our Alumni about the amazing work that’s going on, it’s not always easy to reach everyone in our global community. By asking our Alumni to help us, we can reach many more people and make an even bigger difference! To sign up as an Ambassador click here.

Is my credit card payment secure?

Yes. We’re using a secure, off-site payment processor called Stripe to process our credit card transactions.

Is there a minimum or maximum donation I can make?

The minimum online gift amount is £1. There’s no maximum donation and no limit on the impact you can make.

Can I claim Gift Aid on this donation? (UK tax payers only)
